DETROIT – Detroit voters strongly oppose the city supporting the federal government in removing undocumented immigrants from Detroit, according to a poll.
The poll was conducted May 27-29 over the phone, and it targeted likely Detroit voters.
Participants were asked, “Do you support or oppose the city of Detroit using city resources and city employees to support the federal government and ICE agents in removing undocumented immigrants from Detroit?”
Participants were then asked, “Would that be strongly support/oppose or just somewhat support/oppose?”
Here are the results:
- Strongly support -- 9.6%.
- Somewhat support -- 3.9%.
- Somewhat oppose -- 8.3%.
- Strongly oppose -- 70.5%.
- Depends/don’t know/refused -- 7.5%
Participants were then asked, “Would you say Detroit is or is not a welcoming city or immigrants from around the world?”
Here are the results:
- Is welcoming -- 86.6%.
- Is not welcoming -- 6.5%.
- Don’t know/refused -- 6.7%.

Poll methodology
WDIV and the Detroit News commissioned a survey of likely August 2025 primary election voters within the city of Detroit. The poll was conducted y The Glengariff Group, Inc.
It was a 500 sample, live operator telephone survey from May 27-29, 2025.
The margin of error is +/- 4%, and there is a 95% level of confidence.
Of the respondents, 10.4% were called via landline telephone, and 89.6% were called on a cellphone.
