Protestors challenge new Sheetz locations in Macomb County

Metro Detroit business owners and residents gathered at a meeting by the planning commission

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Things get heated during a meeting about a proposed Sheetz location in Macomb County.

A man was eventually removed from the meeting by police after his outburst on Tuesday (June 3).

Metro Detroit business owners and residents gathered at a meeting by the planning commission.

The Sheetz site is planned for the southeast corner of 23-Mile Road and North Avenue.

Some people living and working nearby expressed their concerns to try and halt what they claim are out-of-state developers threatening local businesses.

“I think it’s very short-sighted thinking,” said Macomb County business owner Nader Jawad. “When you talk about the quality of life, it’s more than just property values. By the way, in case people aren’t aware, they are going to drop with the construction of these new gas stations. How exactly is it going to benefit the community? We’re failing as we need to really look at the long-term picture here.”

The commission approved the special land use and site plan for the Sheetz location.

Local 4 will continue to follow the Sheetz expansion into Metro Detroit and bring you the latest updates as they happen.
