DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers just pulled off one of the most ridiculous plays you’ll ever see on a baseball diamond.
It happened in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday, with the Tigers blasting the White Sox 8-0 at Rate Field in Chicago.
Joshua Palacios led off the inning and hit a foul popup near the White Sox dugout on the third base side.
Dillon Dingler drifted over from behind the plate and tried to make a sliding basket grab, but it bounced off his glove and ricocheted back toward the field.
Well, that’s right where third baseman Zach McKinstry was standing. He was only a few feet away from Dingler, but still reacted fast enough to snatch the ball down around shin height for the out.
The old 2-5 putout on a popup. Casual.
That was just one of many highlights for the Tigers in this game. Parker Meadows made a diving catch in his first inning back in center field. Riley Greene made a ridiculous grab sliding into the left field corner.
Wenceel Perez hit another homer. So did Dingler. Heck, Kerry Carpenter hit two (ope, make that three -- can’t even keep up).
The Tigers have the best record in baseball, and they’re not showing signs of slowing down. (Parker Meadows just hit a triple. It’s 10-0.)
